In this video, we discusses the extreme winter weather conditions experienced in New York during January with temperatures fluctuating from negative 16°F to a sunny 35°F. We express concern about the health of our bee hives, particularly one hive that appears inactive, as we found no signs of life during a recent check. Watch as I use a stethoscope to listen for bees but hear nothing, leading to fears that the hive may not have survived the winter. We plan to revisit the hive in February for a more thorough inspection. In contrast, when checking our layens bee hive, I hear faint buzzing, indicating that the bees are alive and well. I make note that this hive had plenty of honey stored before winter, which bodes well for its survival. Despite the cold temperatures, we remain hopeful that the bees will thrive as spring approaches. The video segment ends with a humorous observation of a bee that flies out and quickly disappears into the snow, highlighting the challenges bees face in harsh winter conditions.
